CLARK
APRIL 30, 1922 - JUNE 28, 2010
William A. (Bill) Clark was born and raised on a farm in the Rochfort Bridge area. His family moved into Rochfort Bridge when Bill was 6 and he attended school there until grade 9. At that point, the Clarks moved to Grande Prairie where Bill finished high school, after which he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. After his training, his flight crew went to England and from there, he was posted to North Africa where he served in Gibraltar and across North Africa, finally ending up in Egypt. During this time, he was promoted to Flight Lieutenant with an above average pilot rating. After the war, he was sent back to England where he was repatriated to Canada and discharged. Bill returned to Grande Prairie and worked with his father to distribute gasoline products through the southern Peace River area for U.F.A. For several years, he was employed as an automotive mechanic and service station operator. Contacted by the Apprenticeship Branch of the Alberta government, he worked there for twenty years, travelling throughout Alberta from Fort McMurray to Medicine Hat. He reached the level of Assistant Manager Field Services and also served several years with the Minister's Advisory Commission on Technical, Vocational Education. Upon retirement, Bill moved to Olds where he resided for the past 12 years. He was blessed with exceptional health until the last year of his life. He was pre-deceased by a son who died at 18 months of age, and Bill was always left to ponder how Butchie's life would have turned out. In his own words, Butchie had been "an amazing son - strong, healthy, very quick - perhaps he had to be in view of his short life." He is survived by "three wonderful daughters - Linda Clark, Diane Waldie, and Donna Warkentin - who have done [him] proud." (Thanks for those sentiments, Dad - they mean the world to us.) He is also survived by his sons-in-law - Cliff Sasyniuk, Bruce Waldie, and Reg Warkentin - and five grandchildren - James and Joanna Waldie, and Reggie, Lisa and Emily Warkentin.
