Country gospel event to raise funds for Haiti
Paul Frey, Olds Albertan

There will be a special fundraising event on March 21 raising funds for Haitian earthquake relief.

The event will take place at the Olds First Baptist Church and will feature several Mountain View County performers such as Cindy Palin, Trio, Seven Fiddles Worth, among others.

Prior to the show, a dinner, catered by Andrea Hawiuk of Willow Brook Coffee House, will be served. Various members of the Uptowne Olds committee will be on hand to help serve the dinner, which begins at 4 p.m.

The shows have been an annual event for about the past 25 years, with over 30 shows taking place in that time.

Hawiuk, who has been hosting the events along with MC Dan Butler of CKFM, explained the shows are always fundraisers for various groups or causes. She said she is grateful for the help of the Uptowne Olds committee and all the volunteer efforts that go into the event — including the performers.

"Whatever need comes, whatever God lays on our heart ... that’s who gets the (funds). We usually do one in November of every year, but since this (earthquake happened) we just felt we should do something for that," she said, noting that in the past, the Christmas Angels or other local organizations have gotten funds.

Dinner tickets are available at various uptown businesses including Willow Brook, for $20 each. During the musical event, starting at 6 p.m., a freewill offering will be taken and added to proceeds from ticket sales. Tickets for the supper will be available up until March 17.
