Local dancers in Disneyland parades

A group of six girls from Olds will be performing in two separate parades in Disneyland in Callifornia on Friday and Saturday.

Darion Bieber, 14, Darci Miller, Jaycee and Shayna Muzychka, Grace Sweetman and Jordyn Norish will be going to the Disneyland Parade on Friday and the California Adventure Parade on Saturday through the main street in Disneyland and the California Adventure Park. The girls, who are part of the Dance Traxx Performance Troupe from Red Deer, will also be performing two jazz dances at the Showdown on Sunday.

The troupe, which ranges in age from about 12 to 18, has been working hard since October 2011 on its dances as well as doing bottle drives and other fundraising in order to make the trip a reality, said Tasha Bieber, Darion’s mom. The girls from Olds range in age from 13 to 15.

“We’ve had great response from the community to help us out to make the trip possible,” Bieber said.

The group sent in audition tapes to organizers prior to being selected to participate.

“We did special dances just for Disneyland and we had to send those. We’ve been working hard this year to get the opportunity to go. It’s exciting,” Bieber said.
