Charges laid after police chase

A Calgary man is facing charges of dangerous driving, flight from police and more after fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle on April 8.

Kenneth Peter Robert Nepoose, 20, has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, having care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired, having care and control of a motor vehicle while having a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit, theft, driving while unauthorized and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

The Easter Sunday incident that lead to his arrest began when the Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit received reports of a driver heading north towards Innisfail on the QE II at 9:05 a.m.

A press release says callers were concerned because the dark blue pickup truck was speeding excessively, swerving and had twice hit the ditch. It said sheriffs intercepted the vehicle a few minutes later and attempted to pull it over but the vehicle instead exited the highway down a dirt road while going over 160 km/h.

RCMP said the driver and vehicle evaded police until 10:50 a.m. The police were contacted as the truck had ended up stuck on the top of a hill in a field near Rge. Rd. 284. The driver contacted a nearby resident for assistance and called a tow truck, which prompted a call to the RCMP.

According to the press release, the man fled on foot when RCMP arrived at the scene. After a short chase he was arrested. The truck had been recently stolen from Calgary.

RCMP say Nepoose remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court this week.
