Broncos men score over 100 against PBI

The Olds College Broncos varsity men’s basketball team exploded on Wednesday for 143 points against the Prairie Bible Institute Pilots, managing an 85-point victory at the Ralph Klein Centre. A total of nine Broncos hit double figures, with Sam Kirkness leading the way with 28 points. Gavin Pittman added 21.



The Broncos had 64 points from beyond the arc on Wednesday.

Sergey Shchepotkin, the Broncos’ head coach, said the players played excellent defence, and that led to the team being able to go on the offensive.

“It was a pretty easy game and we scored a lot. Everything works from good defence and if you play good defence, it’s an easy game for us. We had good teamwork,” he said.

On Saturday, the Broncos were originally supposed to play Central High Prep at home, but switched it to the Edmonton school, winning the contest 87-57. Kirkness led the way again with 22 points while Colton Short added 20 and Brayden Ostermann added nine.

“It was a good game, tough game, but we did well,” Shchepotkin said, noting the team is doing a good job on both sides of the ball.

“They’re doing a great job. We’re trying new plays on offence and we’re trying a more aggressive defence. I’m pretty happy with them,” he said.

The Broncos now have a 7-2 record on the season, leaving them first in Pool A of the Alberta Colleges Athletic League standings.
