New doctors on way; clinic opens doors
Olds will see several new doctors coming to town over the next few months and they could stay for the long term if everything is to their liking. Dr. Steven Turner, an associate at the Wild Rose Medical Centre, confirmed on Monday that three new doctors will begin practising in the community starting in September. Dr. Marnel Aurnet, Dr. Kim Dykn and Dr. Martha Ingles will be joining the WRMC. Dr. Arnet has committed to Olds on a three-year contract while doctors Dykn and Ingles could be here for the long term. The latter two have initially signed up to be temporary physicians. Dykn and Ingles “are initially coming as locums but they’re quite interested in the community (and) they want to kind of get their feet wet before they make a big commitment,” Turner said. In addition, Dr. Jaco Hoffman is currently studying anaesthesia and is committed to coming to the community in July 2011 for the long term. His wife, Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman, will be coming to the …

Wet weather delays roadwork on 50 Ave.
News story Wet weather during the past few weeks has slowed construction on 50 Avenue reconstruction, delaying completion by at least two weeks. “(The contractor) felt with normal weather, they could have been out of there in two to three weeks. Just trying to make progress has been extremely difficult,” said Larry Wright, director of operations for the Town of Olds. Wright said he appreciates that the slow going has been difficult for the public, but he hopes the work can be completed in the near future. The upgrades included a new water pipe, more sewer pipe, replacing of hydrants and reconnecting old services where connections were not as secure as they once were. Repaving of the road is also on the schedule. The work, which began June 17, is expected to wrap up …
